NRs 99.2m Indian aid for 2700 shallow tube wells

Kathmandu, June 12: Indian government has provided NRs 99.2 million for the installation of 2,700 shallow tube-well irrigation system in Nepal.

According to a press statement issued by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu on Monday, Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over a check worth the amount to the secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dr Sanjay Sharma at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu.

The shallow tube wells will be installed in various 12 districts including in Saptari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Kailali and Kanchanpur.

The project would ensure all-season irrigation facility to about 8,115 hectares of farm land, augment productivity of wheat, rice and seasonal fruits, vegetables and other crops and uplift the socio-economic status of farming families in the twelve districts covered under the project, said the statement.
