Dr KC’s fast-unto-death enters 24th day; Dr KC’s blood test on request of his 80-years-old mother

dr_govindaKathmandu / July 23: It has been 24 days since medical activist Dr Govinda KC went on a fast-unto-death demanding reforms in medical education. This is the longest period that the Satyagrahi has gone on a hunger strike at a stretch.

Prior to this, Dr KC had staged a fast-unto-death for 23 days during the time of Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government.

The senior orthopaedic surgeon has repeatedly staged protests of similar nature, with medical education reforms in the heart of his actions.

Talks between government and Dr KC are still uncertain.

The government has recently tried to present a revised Medical Education Bill in the parliament which violates the provisions of the agreement reached by the former government with Dr KC.

Meanwhile, Dr. Govinda KC agreed to have his blood test after the request of his eighty-years-old mother Mitra Kumari who is on the 24th day of his 15th fast-unto-death.

Dr KC’s mother Mitra Kumari showed her deep concern about the deteriorating health condition of her son.

After visiting her son, Mitra Kumari asked Dr KC to get his health checked-up in a telephone when she reached back home. Also, Dr Dibya Singh Shah who is monitoring Dr KC closely is now more worried about him after his health condition is deteriorating day-by-day.

Dr KC after listening to his mother and Dr Dibya, KC finally agreed to have his blood test. Whereas, blood report of Dr KC is not so satisfying as all the parameters are not normal and this has further increased concern among the other doctors involved in KC’s treatment. “This is the lowest white blood cells (WBC) known to us”, stated doctors after observing Dr KC’s blood report.

Also, the level of glucose at its minimum range in KC’s blood and lack of oxygen in the blood has caused a severe chest-ache said Kishor KC, brother of Dr Govinda KC.Courtesy: Myrepublica
