Parliamentarians demand strong action against culprits

Kathmandu, July 29: Parliamentarians have demanded the government step up its efforts to arrest the culprit(s) invovled in the rape and murder of 13 year Nirmala Panta of Bhimdutta municipality-2 in the federal parliamentarian meeting today.

Panta’s body was found four days ago in a sugarcane farm. Four days later, the culprits are yet to be arrested.

Niru Devi Pal, a parliamentarian said that the government must stop politicizing the event and ensure justice is not denied. “Honorable Speaker, I’d urge all leaders who are busy politicizing the incident not to do so. I hope that the government gives proper justice to the victim’s family and strong action against the culprit(s).”

Likewise, Uma Regmi opined that with increasing rape, the government needed to introduce death penalty. “Across the world, the practice of death penalty is there. This should be in Nepal as well.”

Locals and sister organizations of main opposition, Nepali Congress along with various women’s rights organizations have protest demanding the arrest of the perpetrators, relief for the victim’s family and establishment of police station in the incident site to ensure safety of others.

As of now, the victim’s family members have not claimed the body demanding that the police book those responsible for the crime. However, local authorities, have been urging the victim’s family to accept the body. RSS
