MoFAGA calls for coordination to replace tuins

Kathmandu, Aug 4: The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has appealed to the local governments to coordinate with the Ministry in order to replace tuin or wire bridges in their respective jurisdiction.

Issuing a statement on Fridy, Ministry Joint Secretary Pursottam Nepal said the request has been made to ensure that the tuins that were not covered in the first phase of data collection are addressed through the local units.

It may be noted that the government has already introduced the Public Tuin Replacement Procedures, 2073 that authorizes the local units to replace the public tuin and stop construction of any new tuin for public purpose.

The Ministry has also said that it attention was drawn towards the news reports of tuin still being used as a means to cross rivers in various parts of the country. As per the decision taken on 12 October 2015 by the government to replace tuins, 105 of the 131 tuins in operation in the country have already been replaced.

In the current fiscal year, the government has allocated a budget of Rs. 3.11 billion to expedite the construction of suspension bridges to replace the wire crossings, according to the Ministry. RSS
