PM says govt fully committed to press freedom, human rights

PM OliKathmandu / Aug 12: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reiterated the government’s commitment to democracy, press freedom and human rights.

The government was sensitive to decent and free press, and human rights, PM Oli told the newly elected working committee members of Nepal Media Society at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar today, the PM’s Secretariat said.

PM Oli, who is also the chairman of Communist Party of Nepal, said that there is no threat to democracy from Nepal Communist Party as the party itself was established for the cause of democracy, he himself was jailed for 14 years for the same while a large number of his party leaders and cadres got martyrdom.

On the occasion, the PM expressed that some media were trying to portray the government as the anti-civilian freedom over the issue of Maitighar Mandala. “Is Maitighar Mandala a suitable location for organizing a mass meeting, rallies,” the PM questioned.

“CPN is the champion of democracy. Violation of democracy, press freedom and human rights cannot even be imagined during the government of the CPN. The media should understand this matter.”

On the occasion, PM Oli said that the media has the key role to cautious the government and aware the people. The PM also expressed his displeasure to the carelessness of some media. “The contents written at present should be true and relevant after two decades as well,” PM Oli added.

Similarly, the PM claimed that the nation’s metamorphosis could be ensured in a decade. RSS
