Constitutional Council recommends Mishra as Chief Justice

om-prakash-mishraKathmandu / Aug 23:The Constitutional Council has recommended the name of Justice Om Prakash Mishra for the post of Chief Justice.

The meeting held on Thursday evening unanimously recommended the name of Mishra as the new CJ of the country. The post was vacant as the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee turned down Deepak Raj Joshee for the post though the council had recommended his name for the post.

Mishra will undergo the parliamentary hearing before President appoints him to head the judiciary.

Joshee is on leave whereas Mishra is working with the capacity of Acting CJ.

Prime Minister is the chairperson of the CC whereas chief justice, speaker and deputy speaker of House of Representatives, chairperson of National Assembly and main opposition leader are the members of the council. Minister for Law and Justice also participates in the meeting for the recommendation of the chief justice.
