PABSON warns of strike over education bill; Minister warns of action

Kathmandu / Sept 17: Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal (PABSON), an umbrella organization for all its member schools in Nepal, has warned of strike for good if their demands are not fulfilled within a month.

Taking strong exception to the Bill on Free and Compulsory Education endorsed recently by the Parliament, PABSON has hit out at the government stating that the provision in the Bill on scholarship ceiling fixed by the government is ‘unfeasible’ and unscientific.

According to the Bill, the private schools having 500 students should award scholarship to 10 percent students, those having 800 should award 12 percent while those having more than 800 students should provide 15 percent.

Further, PABSON has been demanding that private schools should be allowed to pick the students for 10 percent scholarship allocated for reservation quota and that the private schools should be declared tax free zone.

Govt will take action against defying law: Minister Dhakal

Meanwhile, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal has warned of action against defying the laws. Speaking at a press meet on Monday at the ministry, Minister Dhakal clarified that the government will take strong action as per the current legal system.

Minister Dhakal was responding to the statement released by the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal (PABSON), an umbrella organization for all its member schools in Nepal, in which it has warned of strike for good if their demands are not fulfilled within a month.

“If anyone disobeys the law, then the government will take action as per the law,” and added, “If PABSON protests and stands against the law, the government will be compelled to take action against the organization.”
