Construction of landfill site by federal govt demanded

GarbageKathmandu / Oct. 25:Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has demanded that the federal government should construct landfill site for disposing the capital’s waste.

Saying it was not the responsibility of KMC to construct the landfill site, Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya argued that duty of local level was to take the garbage to landfill site after the site is constructed by federal government.

Shakya said, “The federal government should construct the landfill site as KMC lacks means and resources for the same.”

The garbage collected from 18 local levels of Kathmandu Valley is being managed at Sisdole of Nuwakot district for the past 13 years.

Mayor Shakya further said, “Talks are underway with the federal government regarding the construction. The problem will be resolved soon.”

Although 1,700 ropani of land has been acquired around two kilometres away from Sisdole for construction of the landfill site, construction works have not moved forward. RSS
