Authorities ease up ban on land plotting

Kathmandu / Jan 11: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation on Friday has relaxed some of the restrictions imposed on plotting of land.

According to Minister of Land Management and Poverty Alleviation Padma Kumari Aryal, the total ban on land plotting issued on August, 2017 has been moderated because of practical difficulties in implementation of the rules.

“The Ministry has revised its decision following complaints of difficulties faced by the real estate sector,” the minister informed, “However, this is only a temporary measure until the ministry classifies land and issues an act on that regard.”

Moreover, the government in a bid to preserve arable land has not yet lifted a ban on earmarking of such areas with agricultural prospects for plotting. And, respective local levels must validate a patch of land as not arable before the concerned parties undertake plotting.

“If someone is found to have plotted arable land to trade it, authorities will not transfer ownership of such land,” Minister Aryal clarified, “The Ministry will send technical experts in local level to classify land.”
