Call back Nepali women enlisted in British Army: Parliamentary committee

Nepal ParliamentKathmandu / Feb 16: The House of Representatives, International Relations Committee has directed the government to take initiatives for addressing the demands and the issues raised by the former British Gurkha Army soldiers for justice and equality.

A meeting of the committee on Friday gave the responsibility to present a report with revisions on the problems faced by the ex-British Gurkha Army soldiers to the committee members Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Deepak Prakash Bhatta and Divya Mani Rajbhandari.

The committee gave this instruction to the government to take initiatives at the highest level and start talks for addressing the demands and issues raised by the retired British Gurkha soldiers, while keeping the country’s independence and sovereignty in supreme.

It has also suggested to the government to review the Treaty on the Recruitment of Gurkhas and implement the Nepal’s foreign policy in keeping with the values of the Constitution of Nepal and the democratic system.

The parliament’s committee has called for closing forthwith the recruitment of Nepali women in the British Army without the government’s approval.
