Community shelter to save from flooding

Banke / Mar 3: A safe community shelter has been constructed in Baijapur of Raptisonari rural municipality-3 in order to minimize damage caused by monsoon floods in the Rapti river.

The multi-purpose shelter home was constructed at the cost of Rs. 8.4 million in order to provide safe shelter to those affected by floods, said the rural municipality chair Lahuram Tharu. The construction was completed with the support of Rs. 6.3 million from the Tarai Arc Landscape Programme, Rs. 1.4 million from the rural municipality and Rs. 389,000 worth of local voluntary labor.

Local forest and environment coordination committee Coordinator Tularam Khatri said efforts are being taken at the community level to mitigate disaster-induced risk.

Floods in Rapti river put people in Baijapur, Binauna, Fattehpur, Kachanapur area of a rural municipality in risk during monsoon every year. RSS
