Government suspends financial assistance to cancer patients

Kathmandu / May 12: The government has stopped providing financial assistance to cancer patients in the country.

Speaking at a function in the capital, Secretary at the Ministry of Health Pushpa Chaudhary said that the ministry stopped providing financial assistance to cancer patients due to budget crunch.

The ministry had been providing financial assistance of Rs 100,000 to each cancer patients for the past five months. “We have also suspended the process of enlisting the cancer patients due to the budget crunch,” Chaudhary said.

She said that the government is mulling on allocating a financial assistance of Rs 500,000 to each cancer patients through the upcoming fiscal year budget.

On the occasion, Sanduk Ruit, the founder and executive director of Tilganga Eye Hospital, vowed to provide all assistance for the prevention and treatment of the eye patients.
