Nepal Academy working to bring uniformity in language use

Kathmandu / May 22: Concerned over the lack of uniformity in the use of language, the Nepal Academy says it is taking initiation to have uniformity in a language in school, law courts, and media sector.

In this connection, the Academy is working to bring uniformity in the use of language in these sectors based on the tenth edition of the Nepali Brihat Shabdakosh (Comprehensive Dictionary of the Nepali Language).

The dictionary is published by the Academy. Academy member-secretary Jagat Prasad Upadhyay said they were conducting seminars and discussions in all sectors on the topic of maintaining unity in the use of langage. “The National Examination Board also has issued circulars to all its subordinate levels in this connection,” he added. According to him, the school and college textbooks to be printed fresh would be prepared in keeping with the spelling and word use as stipulated in the tenth edition of the Nepali Brihat Shabdakosh to maintain uniformity in language use.

The Ministry of Education has already issued a circular regarding maintaining uniformity in a language in the education sector. RSS
