Civil society members stage demonstration in capital with various demands

Kathmandu / June 22: A section of civil society staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Saturday.

During the demonstration, civil society members and human rights activists accused the government of curtailing democratic rights and press freedom.

The demonstrators chanted slogans carrying placards reading “respect people’s freedom, withdraw Media Council Bill, ensure good governance, stop meddling in National Human Rights Commission and maintain the independence of the judiciary.”

They claimed the government’s recent moves were against the principles of democracy. Social activists including Charan Prasai and Dr. Govinda KC participated in the protest. RSS
