Bheri-Babai project likely to inundate 21 hectares of land

Surkhet / June 24: Twenty-one hectares of land is likely to be inundated due to Bheri-Babai multipurpose diversion project- a national pride project.

The recent survey carried by the project shows that 13 hectares of area in the downstream and eight hectares of unregistered would be inundated. The survey carried out five years ago had shown that only eight hectares of land to be waterlogged. The project carried out the survey again after locals of the affected areas expressed their dissatisfaction over the old survey report. A total of 11 households would be affected by the project.

The project has made preparation to submit the report related to land acquisition to the Chief District Officer this week. A total of Rs 100 million has been allocated to pay compensation in the current fiscal year. The Bheri-Babai project is being constructed with an objective of generating 45 Megawatt power as well as to provide irrigation facility to 51,000 hectares of land in Banke and Bardiya.
