Monsoon Havoc across the country; Warning and advisory for next 24 hours across country

Kathmandu / July 12: Three persons belonging to the same family were killed as the wall of the house collapsed at Mulpani in Kathmandu.

They have been identified as Sharmila Yadav, Nilu Yadav, and Kundan Yadav who are originally from Bara district. They have been staying at Mulpani.

According to Uttam Raj Subedi, a Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) at Teku-based Metropolitan Police Range, an effort is being made to dig the bodies of the three out of the rubble of the house.

17 persons trapped on bank of Bagmati river

As many as 17 persons have been trapped on the bank of Bagmati river situated between Rautahat and Sarlahi after flood inundated the area surrounding the river.

They were surrounded by flood triggered by incessant rain as they were grazing their animals.

They are shouting for help from the top of the trees.

Likewise, a woman who has been identified as Dulari Devi, 40, has gone missing from the flood-hit area.

According to Kiran Thapa, chief officer at District Administration Office(DAO) in Rautahat district, DAO has sent a letter to Nepal Army urging it to rescue the flood victims by airlifting them out of danger.

There are 200 households in the flood-hit area. They have been inundated by flood.

Janakpur submerged in water

Large parts of Janakpur sub metropolis in Dhanusha have been inundated following incessant rain since Wednesday night. Most of the road areas, government offices and private houses sitting on relatively low lands have been left under water.

Janakpur’s historic Barhabigha Ground, Janakppur Airport, the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Janakpur Zonal Hospital, District Police Office Dhanusha, District Post Office, State 2 Health Directorate, Janakpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry office, Bhanu Chowk area, Mills Area, an area from Murali Chowk to Bishwakarma Chowk and Kadam Chowk are submerged by the rain waters.

However, no untoward incident has been reported so far from the heavy rain, and works to collect loss details are underway, Dhanusa Deputy Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Karki said.

Poor management of drainage built during the implementation of road upgrading project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s Integrated Urban Development Project is blamed for the inundation.

Updating on the situation of flooding risk in the district, Chief District Officer, Pradip Kanel, the water level in the Kamala River at the border of Dhanusha and Siraha districts is on the rise, and people residing in the nearby settlements have been warned about the possibility of negative consequence from the river rising waters and urged to stay alert. So far the situation has not turned to worse. Efforts are underway to minimise the situation, he said.

Roads connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu obstructed, one car buried by landslide

Vehicular movement along the roads connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu has been obstructed by the rainfall-triggered landslides.

Sisneri-Phakhel road section between Hetauda and Kathmandu has been obstructed by landslide triggered by heavy rain, informed DSP Mukesh Kumar Singh who is the chief of District Police Office in Makwanpur.

According to him, Tribhuvan Rajpath has also been obstructed by the landslide that occurred in Bhimphedi rural municipality at 9 am on Friday morning. Likewise, Kanti Lokpath, another road stretch connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu, has been closed for four days due to the landslide caused by incessant heavy rain.

Bhimphedi-Fakhel road stretch between Hetauda and Kathmandu has also been obstructed due to landslide that occurred at 4 am on Friday morning.

Likewise, vehicular movement along many rural roads in different parts of Makwanpur district has been obstructed by flood and landslide.

A private car has been buried by the rainfall-triggered landslide occurred at Kalanki of Indrasarobar rural municipality.

The Kathmandu-bound car(Ba 2 Cha 9920) was buried by the landslide, confirmed DSP Singh. However, no human casualty has been reported.

Only one-way traffic on Palpa- Butwal road

Only one-way traffic has been allowed on the Palpa-Butwal section of the Siddhartha highway after it was obstructed by a landslide triggered by incessant rain.

Continuous rain for three days triggered landslide near Siddhababa on Thursday evening and at Kerabari area today morning. The mudslide has deposited debris along with large boulders on the road, the District Police Office Palpa said.

Part of the landslide debris has been removed with the help of a bulldozer this morning and the road opened for one-way traffic, Deputy Superintendent Krishna Raj Sapkota said.

DSP Sapkota said the road would be opened for two-way traffic after some time as the work on removing the debris is in progress despite the relentless rain.

Warning and advisory for next 24 hours across country: DHM

Meteorological Forecasting Division under Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has issued an alert warning along with advisory for the next 24 hours across the country.

According to the forecasting division, the Eastern and central areas of the country will receive heavy rainfall. Likewise, the Eastern Terai region and mid-hill region will witness an extremely heavy rainfall which may trigger landslides in those areas.

The division has mentioned that people living in those flood-prone settlements have been informed about the risk of flooding in anticipation of the rise in water level in the middle and eastern parts of Terai region.

There is also a high possibility of water levels in small rivers and big rivers increasing beyond normal limits, according to a notice issued by DHM.

There will be continuous rainfall along with the strong wind in different parts of the country in the next three days, DHM said.

The division has also mentioned that air and road transport will be affected adversely due to heavy rainfall.

PM Oli offers deep condolences to bereaved families of flood victims

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved families who lost their family members in the flood and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall.

The flood and landslides caused by incessant rain that began from Thursday have claimed the lives of 6 persons so far.

As many as 7 persons have gone missing due to flood and landslide. The flood and landslides have wreaked havoc on 400 households.

“I offer deep condolences to the families who lost their members in the disaster[flood and landslide]”, tweeted Oli.

Oli has also tweeted that security personnel have been mobilized to rescue the victims of the flood and landslides that stemmed from the incessant rain.

Concerned ministries are busy making early warning message system as effective as possible, Oli tweeted. According to him, an effort is being made to change the direction of the flow of flood to avoid human casualty in the part of Sarlahi district adjoining India in coordination with the Indian side.
