SAC directs govt to expedite rescue, relief operations in disaster-hit areas

Kathmandu / July 14: State Affairs Committee of the Parliament (SAC) has directed the government to relocate the people caught in floods and landslides and to make necessary arrangements to prevent the loss of additional lives and poperty.

During a meeting on Sunday, the committee urged the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Home Affairs to expedite rescue and relief operations in the floods and landslides-hit areas.

SAC chairperson Shashi Shrestha said that the committee asked the government to make necessary arrangements to prevent the loss of additional lives and property.

“We have asked the government to relocate the people caught in floods and landslides,” she said.

During the meeting, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa said that the government has already intensified rescue and relief operations in the floods and landslides-hit areas.

He told the committee members that 32 people have been killed, 29 injured and 32 have gone missing due to the floods and landslides following heavy rains in various parts of the country.
