PM Oli underlines need for concerted efforts to combat climate change

Kathmandu / July 15: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged all citizens to be aware of climate change and its adverse effects.

Inaugurating the International Conference on Climate Change that kicked off on Monday, PM Oli appealed people to minimize those activities that have adverse effects on the climatic conditions.

“Countries like Nepal are experiencing the disproportionate brunt of climate change despite their insignificant contribution to global emissions”, stated PM Oli.

He highlighted the important contributions of Nepal’s mountains, rivers, and forests to the maintenance of the ecological system, and said that Nepal’s carbon emission is negligible but the ‘brunt’ we have been bearing is disproportionate.

He also informed that ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’, an international program was scheduled for March 2020. He requested all scientists to participate in that program.

Speaking in the program, Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet said that all the Himalayan countries should collaborate on the reduction of the activities affecting the global climatic conditions. He urged all the international agencies and organizations to collaborate on the elimination of global climate change.

The program jointly organized under the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and Ministry for Forest and Environment includes participants working under Hindu Kush Himalaya.
