Committee formed to conduct study on yoga science, Ayurveda submits report

Kathmandu / August 19: A committee formed to conduct a study on yoga science, naturopathy, Ayurveda and medicinal herbs has submitted its report to Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel.

The committee’s coordinator Dr Hari Prasad Pokharel submitted the report to the minister amid an event today. Receiving the report, Minister Pokharel committed to implementing a suggestion from the committee following necessary discussions. The committee in the report suggested incorporating optional subjects on yoga, naturopathy, Ayurveda and medicinal herbs in school level education from nine grades to 12 at the earliest.

The Ministry, four months ago formed the committee to identify and launch programs in schools relating to yoga, naturopathy, Ayurveda and medicinal herbs, identify the necessity of medicinal herbs and amend curriculums on Ayurveda and naturopathy.

The committee’s members are Prof Dr Sanjaya Pokharel, Prof Dr Nanda Bahadur Singh, Dr Sheshraj Acharya, Dr Janak Bahadur Basnet, Dr Lekhnath Poudel and Sanjib Kumar. Dipak Prasad Poudel, director of the Curriculum Development Division of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training, is member-secretary of the committee. RSS
