Bangladeshi President holds meeting with counterpart Bhandari, VP, PM and leaders

Kathmandu / Nov 13: Visiting Bangladesh President Mohammad Abdul Hamid held a meeting with his Nepali counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday evening.

The two sides held a discussion on further strengthening the age-old friendly bilateral ties, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Bhandari is scheduled to host a banquet in honor of President Hamid this evening. Hamid arrived in Kathmandu on a four-day goodwill official visit on Tuesday afternoon.

Vice President, PM, leaders call on visiting Bangladesh President

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timalsina and leaders from the major political parties called on Mohammad Abdul Hamid, the president of Bangladesh in the capital on Wednesday.

The top political figures held meeting with the president of Bangladesh who is currently paying a four-day official goodwill visit to Nepal.

During the meetings, the two sides held extensive views on further strengthening age-old friendly ties between the two South Asia countries, it is learned.

Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal and President of the main opposition Nepali Congress held separate meetings with Hamid earlier today.

During the meeting with Dahal, the two exchanged views on the strengthening of bilateral ties, according to Dahal’s secretariat.

On the occasion, President Hamid expressed his commitment to moving ahead collectively to promote mutual assistance and cooperation in the changing context, RSS reported.

Stating that Nepal and Bangladesh were on the path towards development and political stability, the Bangladesh President stressed the need to make joint efforts to face possible challenges towards that end.

President Hamid praised NCP Chair Dahal’s contribution to Nepal’s political changes and peace process. He also lauded Nepal’s role in Bangladesh’s independence movement, according to the deputy chief of NCP’s Foreign Relations Department who participated in the meeting.

After holding the meeting with Hamid, NC President Deuba said on Twitter that they dwelled on further strengthening bilateral ties between Nepal and Bangladesh.

Hamid is scheduled to meet his Nepali counterpart today evening. Bhandari will host a banquet in his honor today itself.

Bangladesh President Hamid arrived here on November 12 at the invitation of President Bhandari.

He is slated to visit Pokhara and Chandragiri Hills in Kathmandu on Thursday. Wrapping up his Nepal visit, President Hamid will return home on Friday.
