Japan hands over excavator to Tukche village

Kathmandu / Nov 19: Japan has handed over an excavator valued at about Nepali Rupees 9.3 million to officials of Tukche-1 of Thasang Rural municipality in Mustang district on Tuesday.

Yoshiki Sando, the second secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu handed over the excavator to local authorities amid a function held at Tukuche, according to a press release issued by the embassy.

Addressing the program, Yoshiki expressed the hope that the excavator would be used during the time of emergencies and short-term control erosion.

Tukche village is located on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River and the people there have to deal with large volumes of water from snowmelt that erodes the river banks.

The village is prone to erosion and people have lost their fields and have had to relocate because of the inability to tame flood water.

In its press release, the embassy expressed hope that the project can contribute towards land conservation around Tukche. “It also believes that the assistance will contribute towards further strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan and Nepal,” read the press release.
