“No Citizen embraces death for Want of Treatment”

Kathmandu, Nov 25: Minister for Health and Population Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal said on Monday that the government would make all Nepalis feel like ‘there is the State, I get medical treatment’ keeping in mind ‘no Nepali citizen embraces death for want of treatment’.

“Citizens should not be deprived of treatment due to lack of money. The state takes the responsibility of providing medical treatment to them. I ensure that the citizens feel like there is a state which provides treatment to them. I am focusing on it. Nepal will become prosperous when there are healthy citizens,” he said while addressing a meeting of the campaign against measles and rubella and preparedness for strengthening regular immunisation, the first address after assuming office following his appointment as the minister.

The campaign was launched by the Child Health and Immunisation Service Section under the Department of Health Services.

On his work plan, the newly appointed minister pledged to effectively implement programmes in the policies and programmes and the budget.

Before the reshuffle of the government, Dhakal had looked after the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Likewise, health secretary Khaga Raj Baral pledged not to let employment adjustment problems create hurdles in the immunisation campaign.

The government is preparing to launch the fifth National Immunisation Campaign against measles and rubella in coming February -March-April. The campaign will be launched in two phases: first phase from February 13 to March 13 and the second phase from March 14 to April 12.

The vaccination campaign was affected in the later days due to the civil servant adjustment process.

Director General of the Department of Health Services Roshan Pokharel shared that all the authorities were given by the provincial government for storage and management of the vaccines.

He also informed that economic directives was also ready.

Similarly, stating that Nepal had achieved remarkable reforms in the vaccination in the last 40 years, Family Welfare Division’s Kedar Parajuli pledged to organize vaccination campaign more effectively in future.

World Health Organization’s representative to Nepal Dr Joss Vandelaer underscored the need to implement vaccination campaign more effectively to eliminate rubella and measles. RSS
