Private Sector Should Be Motivated For Investment: Prachanda

Dhangadhi / Dec 6: Chairman of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said economic prosperity could be achieved if appropriate environment for investment was created.

Speaking in a programme conducted as part of the Far West Fiscal Conference 2076 here on Friday, former Prime Minister Dahal argued that the private sector should be motivated for investment in the country. He said that the foreign investment could not be attracted unless Nepali investors were convinced well. He opined that the banks, financial institutions and industrialists, however, should not dodge tax.

Chairman Dahal said compensations could be provided to the community left unheard and pushed away from state mechanism in the past. He also remembered that the Far West University was established during his premiership in a bid to uplift the far western region.

The Chairman further shared that process was underway to open northern Taklakot and Urai border points, to forward West Seti Project and to construct dry port.

Similarly, Minister for Industry, Commerce and supplies Lekharaj Bhatta shared that the initiation was underway to develop Haraiya of Kailali as special economic zone and to establish Dudejhari of Lamki and Chhela of Kanchanpur as industrial region. He also opined to develop Dhangadhi- Attariya and industrial corridor.

National employment authority in the offing

On the occasion, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Rameshwor Ray Yadav, has pointed out the need of financial literacy for the financial development of country. “Government is planning to set up the national employment authority,” he informed.

Similarly, Far West Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta said the State government had prioritized agriculture, energy, tourism and medicinal herbs. He made commitment that they were engrossed on how the investment friendly atmosphere could be created.

Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning in the State, Jhapat Bahadur Bohara, and main opposition leader Dr Rana Bahadur Rawal also spoke about economic activities, and financial conference.

The conference is being held with the aim of ensuring citizen’s access to financial institutions, propping up economic activities in the State.

Secretary at the Ministry Economic Affairs and Planning, Suman Raj Aryal, however, said the Far West was yet to augment economic activities as per the expectation.
