Snowfall forecast, meteorologists call for alertness

Kathmandu / Dec 11: A Westerly wind system above Iran and Afghanistan is entering Nepal’s western territory by this evening with the possibility of snowfall in high hills and mountain regions there, Meteorological Forecasting Division stated, suggesting for alertness.

The system is to become more intense on Thursday, causing the possibility of heavy snowfall in the eastern and central high hilly and mountainous regions, meteorologist Manju Basi said.

Due to impact of this system, minimum and maximum temperature across the country will further dip, leading to increased cold, the Division stated.

The same system is likely to bring light to moderate rain at many places of the western region and at few places of the eastern and central regions.

The Division said though no noticeable weather system has developed so far in the country, impact of western disturbance will be seen from tonight.

It predicts generally cloudy in the western region along with eastern and central hilly regions and partly cloudy in the rest of the country with chances of light to moderate snowfall at many places of the western high mountainous region and at a few places of the eastern and central high mountainous regions tonight. The system will remain in effect until Friday.
