83% post-earthquake reconstruction works accomplished so far, claims NRA

Kathmandu / Dec 26: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) on Thursday said that there has been 83% progress made in the post-earthquake reconstruction of private housing, schools, government buildings, health institutions and cultural heritages during four years of its establishment.

Organizing a press conference to make public the achievement made by the NRA so far, CEO Sushil Gyewali said that of the total 780,165 private houses damaged in the earthquake, 482,323 houses have already been reconstructed and the remaining 18941 houses are currently being rebuilt.

Out of 7553 damaged schools, 5380 schools have been rebuilt and 1787 schools are being rebuilt.

Out of earthquake-hit 891 heritages, the reconstruction of 387 heritages has been accomplished whereas reconstruction of 123 heritages is in progress. Out of 1197 health institutions, 665 have been rebuilt whereas 149 are in progress and out of 415 government buildings, 359 have been reconstructed. Similarly, the reconstruction of 49 government buildings is under progress.

Likewise, he said that Rs 335 billion has been spent in reconstruction works so far, in which, Rs 293 billion was received from the government and donor agencies and Rs 42 billion was received from INGOs. Gyewali stated that the NRA requires Rs 3 billion to complete the remaining reconstruction works.

Out of 762 kilometers roads to be reconstructed, 443 kilometers have already been reconstructed and out of 791 drinking water projects, 670 projects have already been executed.
