Govt, cane farmers ink five-point deal, farmers to receive dues by Jan 21

Kathmandu / Jan 3: Agitating sugarcane farmers and the government on Friday evening reached a five-point agreement regarding outstanding payments to be received by the farmers from the sugar mill owners.

According to the deal, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies will make the necessary arrangement to get the all the dues cleared by January 21.

Similarly, it has been agreed to form a committee headed by the under secretary of the ministry comprising stakeholders, sugar mill owners, farmers and experts in a bid to submit a study report to introduce automatic price system to address the payment delay in the days to follow.

Following the agreement, the agitating farmers have called off their week-long protest.
