45 candidates register nomination for NA election

Kathmandu / Jan 5: A total of 45 candidates have registered their nominations for the election of the Upper House (National Assembly) on Sunday.

The nomination registration process had begun at 10:00 am and concluded at 3:00 in the afternoon. The EC had designated the High Courts from the respective states as the offices of the returning officers for filing of the nominations.

The candidates are competing for the 18 seats at the NA. According to assistant spokesperson of the Election commission (EC), the nomination process was concluded peacefully in all seven states. Nine candidates from Nepal Communist Party (NCP), seven from Nepali Congress, two from Rastriya Janata Party and one from Socialist Party have registered their candidacy for the election.

Of the 59 members at the Upper House, tenure of 19 members is ending on March 3. As per the legal provision, Upper House should get its lawmakers 35 days before others’ term expires. The vacant posts of 18 members would be fulfilled by the election while one will be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.RSS
