708 new COVID-19 cases, 731 recoveries and eight Fatalities in 24 hours

Kathmandu / Dec. 29: With 708 new cases of the novel coronavirus confirmed on Tuesday, the national COVID-19 tally has surged to 259,548.

“In 6,135 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, as many as 708 persons were found to have been infected with SARS-CoV-2,” informed the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) in its daily update.

Currently, there are 6,396 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation.

A total of 365 persons, mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.

Meanwhile, 731 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 251,312 cases of recoveries.

A total of eight people succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours and with this, the national COVID-19 related death tally has reached 1,840.

398 more infections reported in the valley in the last 24 hours

The three districts of Kathmandu valley reported 398 fresh cases of coronavirus infection on Tuesday.

Kathmandu district alone reported 324 cases while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur registered 52 and 22 infections respectively.

Of those newly infected in the valley, 156 are females while 242 are males.

Currently, there are 2942 active infections in Kathmandu, 364 in Lalitpur, and 165 in Bhaktapur. The total number of active cases throughout Nepal, as of today, is 6396.

So far, 469 fatalities from Covid-19 have been reported in Kathmandu, 100 in Bhaktapur, and 146 in Lalitpur. The nationwide death-toll has advanced to 1840 with eight additional fatalities reported today.

Meanwhile, a total of 93,374 people have recovered from the infection in Kathmandu while 14,659 have recovered in Lalitpur and 8560 in Bhaktapur.

At present, Kathmandu is the only district in the country with over 500 active cases while Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Mugu and Rukum West have zero live infections.
