EC says CPN (Maoist Center) registered legally

Kathmandu / July 11: Election Commission, Nepal, has made it clear that the CPN (Maoist Center) was legally registered at the EC and dismissed an application that claimed otherwise.

Leaders who recently deserted the Maoist Center and joined the ruling CPN (UML) had on Friday reached the Election Commission demanding the dissolution of the Maoist Center claiming the party had no legal basis. Prabhu Sah, Top Bahadur Raymajhi, Mani Thapa and Gaurisankar Chaudhari were among the leaders who had reached the ECN.

As the Maoist Center has been registered at the EC fulfilling all constitutional and legal provisions, the Election Commission decided that there is no need to look into the application submitted to the Commission relating to the legality of the Maoist Center, Raj Kumar Shrestha, EC spokesperson, said.

With regard to an application that claimed the Maoist Center as illegal, the EC decided that there is nothing to do with the application, he added.

The EC has based its decision on five bases including the fact that the Maoist Center was registered at the EC 16 August 2016.
