NRNA UK urges GoN to help address Ex-British Gurkhas’ demand

Kathmandu / Aug. 19: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) UK has urged the Government of Nepal to take the required initiative to help address the demands of ex-British Gurkha soldiers, currently agitating in the UK for equal pension rights.

The NRNA delegation on Tuesday submitted a memorandum about the matter, which includes the Ex Gurkhas’ demand for pension on par with their British counterparts, to the London-based Embassy of Nepal. The memo addressed to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba seeks the latter’s role for addressing the long-held concerns of the agitating former soldiers. Earlier on Monday, the NRNA UK chapter had submitted a similar memorandum to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The NRNs in the UK have sought long-term solutions to this matter. NRNA UK President Prem Gaha Magar met with Nepal’s Ambassador to the UK, Lokdarshan Regmi, and handed the memorandum. “We have taken the August 16 Council of Minister’s decision to take diplomatic efforts for resolving the issue positively. But, we appeal to the Government of Nepal to come up with a substantive plan for a long-term solution to the issue,” the memo states. RSS
