Schools in Valley likely to resume classes in Physical Presence Next Week
Bishnu Pande / Kathmandu, Sept. 2: Local levels in the Kathmandu Valley have started preparations to resume school classes in person.
The local levels started the homework for resuming conventional school classes after a meeting of the Chief District Officers of the three districts in the Valley decided on Wednesday that the local levels-municipalities or rural municipalities- could open schools in coordination with the district COVID Crisis Management Committee (DCCMC).
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has mulled over allowing school resumption after a week.
“We will see to what extent the infection has come down in the metropolis and if we find the virus infection has decreased, we will allow resumption of school classes in the physical presence of the students and teachers,” said Ram Prasad Subedi, chief of education division of the KMC.
He said both the community and institutional schools have been demanding that they be allowed to run classes in the physical presence of students. “If the situation improves, we will allow school resumption but monitor them for strict adherence to health safety measures.”
Similarly, Bhaktapur Municipality has also initiated homework to permit the running of schools classes in the physical presence of students.
“We are holding a discussion on the modality of resumption of school classes. On Wednesday, we held a discussion with the private schools and on Thursday with the community schools. Both the private and community schools demanded that they should be allowed to run classes in the physical presence of the students,” said Krishna Prasad Karmacharya, chief of the education section of the municipality.
Likewise, Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has collected suggestions from schools on ways to run the classes.
Mahendra Panthi, chief of the education division of the LMC, said that decision on allowing school classes will be taken on the basis of the risk of the infection of the novel coronavirus.
