CIAA to probe allegations against Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation on fund embezzlement

Kathmandu / Jan 16: A complaint has been filed against the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), citing a possible embezzlement of funds collected for the construction of the Gautam Budhha International Cricket Stadium by the Foundation .

Popular comedians duo Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire had initiated the construction of the stadium by receiving funds from various sources. However, the construction was halted after the spread of COVID-19 in March 2020.

According to a CIAA source, the foundation has been accused of misusing the money provided by donors, Non-resident Nepalis and a number of government bodies. As of now, the foundation is estimated to have spent Rs 540 million in the construction of the cricket stadium.

The proposed cricket stadium is being built at Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15. The foundation signed an agreement with the metropolis on January 30, 2020 to construct the project. But the foundation pulled out of the ambitious project on the pretext of being unable to generate the required funds.
