Chinese Foreign Minister wraps up Nepal Visit; China pledges 11.4 billion Aid

Kathmandu / Mar. 27: After a three-day visit to Nepal, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi returned home on Sunday.

Wang, who arrived in Kathmandu at 5 pm on Friday, returned to China on Sunday afternoon.

During his visit to Nepal, Wang’s priorities were focused on political talks.

Earlier this morning, State Councilor Wang paid a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari. Various matters of Nepal-China relations were discussed on the occasion.

Wang also met with former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML K P Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal on separate occasions.

Wang arrived in Kathmandu on a three-day official visit to Nepal on March 25. During his stay in Kathmandu, Wang held a meeting with his Nepali counterpart Dr Narayan Khadka. The two countries have signed nine agreements to further bolster cooperation between Nepal and China during Wang’s visit. 

Nepal to receive 11.4 billion rupees in Chinese Aid

The government of the people’s republic of China will provide more than Rs 11.40 billion in grant assistance to the Government of Nepal under financial and technical assistance.

The amount will be spent on the implementation of projects agreed upon by both countries, according to the Ministry of Finance. The amount is provided for the year 2020.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a visit to Nepal, has also pledged to provide development assistance announced during President Xi Jinping’s 2019 visit to Nepal.

He expressed the commitment during the Nepal-China Foreign Ministerial Talks held in the capital on Saturday. He also agreed to fully operate the two-way movement of goods and services on the Rasuwagadhi-Tatopani border point.

During the talks, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries have instructed the concerned bodies to make necessary preparations for the speedy operation of the border point. The Chinese Foreign Minister also assured that the Nepali students will return to China as soon as possible.
