Youths start collective farming of apple and walnut in Humla

Humla / June 27: Youths of Hepka village located in Namkha Rural Municipality-1 in the Humla district have ventured into a group commercial farming of apple and walnut.

The youths started the common commercial farming knowing that productivity can be increased through collective farming in which land is aggregated rather than doing it separately on a segregated small land.

A youth farmer Pasang Lama of Hepka village said that he started apple and walnut farming in partnership with other local friends by bringing the barren land into use last year.

They have constructed separate plots of nurseries to grow seedlings.

Lama informed that around 650 seedlings of walnuts and 2000 seedlings of apple are growing.

He said that an additional 500 seedlings are being grown for next year.

Chief of the Agriculture Development Office Bakhat Khadka said that the Pramod Livestock Farming, Agriculture and Medicinal Herb Firm has been provided with assistance under the collective farming motivation scheme.

He said that the agriculture office spent the budget of Rs 2.5 million for the development of the firm as the best firm for apples and walnuts in the district

The firm has a total investment of Rs 5.4 million. Of the total investment, the agriculture office provided Rs. 2.5 million, while Lama and his partners invested the remaining amount.

The distance of the firm is near from Simkot-Hilsa road segment under the Karnali corridor and a road to link the firm with the road network is under construction.
