President Bhandari conferes Indian Army Chief Pande the rank of honourary General of NA

Kathmandu / Sept. 5: President Bidya Devi Bhandari conferred the rank of an honourary General of the Nepali Army to the Indian Army Chief, General Manoj Pande in a special ceremony held at the Office of the President today.

The President also provided the Indian Army chief with a certificate and a sword.

The honour was presented in presence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba who also looks after the Defence Ministry.

On the occasion, chief secretary Shanker Dah Bairagi, and Nepali Army Chief Prabhu Ram Sharma, among other officials, were present.

Nepal and India have a decades-old tradition to honour each other’s chief of the army staff with the rank of an honorary General.

General Pande arrived in Nepal Sunday on a five-day official visit at the invitation of the NA chief Sharma.
