Kathmandu / Sept.30: Chief election commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has urged the mass media for making self-regulation and self-assessment with regard to the publication and broadcasting of news during the election.

In a press meeting held during the inauguration of the Press Office at the Commission’s headquarters in Kantipath for the election of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly, the EC chief made it clear that the Election Commission (EC) will not regulate news items published or broadcast as the responsibility lies with the Press Council.

He said, “Press Council will monitor the compliance of news produced, broadcasted and will monitor whether or not the news materials are helping the upcoming election or not.”
