Fulpati arrives at Hanuman Dhoka; 1.7 million people leave for Dashain

Kathmandu / Oct 2: A palanquin with ‘fulpati’ from the Dashain Ghar in Gorkha Durbar arrived in Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu today, on the seventh day of Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal.

The helpers at the Gorkha palace had sent the decorated palanquin at an auspicious time at 8:15AM on Sunday morning after performing puja and rituals. Fulpati is a collection of seven different plants that are considered auspicious during Dashain.

1.7 million people leave for Dashain

Almost double the number of people has left the capital city for their homes to celebrate Dashain this year compared to the last year.

Some 1.7 million people left the Kathmandu Valley in the last 16 days.

The fear of COVID-19 has discouraged people from traveling home in the previous two years.

Bijay Swar, Chairperson of the Federation of Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs, said that most people have used public transport to leave the valley.

He said so far 1.7 million people have left the valley and some 200 thousand more will leave the capital city by the day of Dashain. (Translated from RSS Nepali news)
