PM Dahal discusses current economic affairs with NRB governor, private sector reps

Kathmandu / March 5: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has discussed the current issues of the economic and banking and financial sector with the representatives of the private sector and the governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

On Sunday, at the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, finance secretary and other representatives of the umbrella organizations of the private sector and representatives of the banking and financial sector discussed the current issues of the economic and banking and financial sector.

PM Dahal discussed with stakeholders the problems seen in the banking and financial sector in rent times. Recently, Prime Minister Dahal started initiatives to solve the problems in the financial institutions including microfinance, cooperatives and the banks’ interest rates.

In the banking and financial sector, especially microfinance, the borrowers have been demanding the scrapping of microfinance. On the other hand, there is a group on the streets protesting, saying they cannot pay back the loans taken from banks and financial institutions and they should be waived. Traders are also protesting on the streets because the banks are charging high interest rates.

Prime Minister Dahal has started discussions with stakeholders on these issues. Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikari, Finance Secretary Toyam Raya, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Shekhar Golchha, President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Rajendra Malla, President of Confederation of Nepalese Industries Vishnu Kumar Agarwal, President of Nepal Bankers’ Association Sunil KC, Nepal Microfinance Banker’s Association President Prakash Raj Sharma and others participated in the discussions.
