Film hall owners move to High Court to challenge KMC Mayor’s decision

Kathmandu / June 21: The Nepal Film Association has lodged a writ petition with the High Court challenging the decision made by Mayor Balendra Shah of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to halt the screening of Hindi films.

Mandira Shahi, the spokesperson for the Patan High Court, confirmed that the Film Association’s writ petition was officially registered on Wednesday afternoon.

Mayor Balendra Shah banned the exhibition of Hindi movies in KMC halls, citing the portrayal of Sita as an Indian daughter in the Hindi film Adhipurush. Film hall owners have approached the High Court, asserting that the mayor’s decision violates the law.

Film hall owners have also requested an interim order permitting the screening of Hindi movies in theaters within Kathmandu. The hearing for this writ petition has been scheduled for Thursday.
