KMC preparing to ban sale of chatpate, panipuri and unpackaged milk in Kathmandu

Kathmandu / Aug 13: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has prepared to ban the sale of foods such as panipuri, chatpate, etc throughout the monsoon season.

Basanta Adhikari, the Chief Administrative Officer of the metropolis, said that this was discussed in the meeting of the monitoring committee held on Sunday. He said that due to the rapid transmission of diseases like cholera through foods like Panipuri and Chatpate, KMC is preparing to ban their sale for a certain period.

“The practice of selling milk in plastic containers and securing them with rubber bands is against the norms and should be discontinued immediately,” Adhikari said.

Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol said that monitoring will be tightened to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases during the monsoon season. She said that the metropolis will immediately deploy a team to monitor the market activities. She said that those who fail to rectify their practices despite warning, will have to face legal and administrative action.

Similarly, KMC is going to continue the campaign to confiscate and destroy water jars, contrary to the standard of not selling water in crushed, cracked, and broken water jars.
