Climbers make first ascent of Jugal 5 peak

Kathmandu / Oct. 26: A team of climbers has successfully scaled a virgin peak in Sindhupalchowk. According to Himalayan Shepherd Pvt. Ltd, renowned climbers including Pemba Dorje Sherpa, Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, Tenzing Jangbu Sherpa from USA, singer Sajja Chaulagai and Jaime Salinas from Mexico stood atop Jugal 5 peak on Tuesday.

The climbers have already returned to base camp, the company said. “Under the ‘First Ascent Nepal, USA and Mexico Friendship Expedition’, the team has obtained climbing permits for Jugal 3 (6,184m), Jugal 4 (5,936m) and Jugal 5(5,922m),” said the Department of Tourism.

The expedition has jointly been organised by Dolma Outdoors and Himalayan Shepherd. The team has, however, halted its plan to climb the remaining two peaks due to bad weather conditions, according to the organizers.Sajja Chaulagain, who won the Title of Nepal Idol Season 3, has been attempting to scale unclimbed peaks under the slogan ‘From Unheard to Unstoppable: Climb for Women in the Arts’.

Grandson of record-holder mountaineer Ang Rita Sherpa, Tenzing Jangbu has been climbing mountains to inspire the younger generation to study and experience mountain life.
