Nepal’s Ruksana Kapali listed in BBC 100 Women 2023

Kathmandu / Nov 21: Ruksana Kapali from Nepal has earned a place on the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) list of influential women. This year, Kapali is among the 100 women recognized by the BBC.

Released on Tuesday, the list features inspiring and influential women from around the world. Kapali, a transgender human rights activist and member of the Newa indigenous community in Nepal, has been acknowledged for her dedicated work advocating the rights of women like herself.

While growing up, Kapali faced challenges due to the lack of information about her identity, as highlighted by the BBC. Despite these challenges, she has been a vocal advocate for queer rights, addressing issues related to gender and sexuality on social media.

Currently a third-year law student, Kapali is actively engaged in advancing legal and constitutional rights for gender and sexual minorities in Nepal.

The BBC has been publishing this annual list since 2013, selecting 100 women globally who have made significant contributions to women’s empowerment in various fields such as politics, enterprise, art, literature, and services.
