Former President Bhandari awarded with ‘Republic Pride Honour’

Kathmandu / April 22: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been conferred with ‘Republic Pride Honour’.

Former President Bhandari was honoured with a prestigious award marking the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the establishment of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, President of the Nepali Congress, former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairperson of the CPN (UML), also former PM KP Sharma Oli, Former Prime Minister and leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhalanath Khanal, former PM Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, were among those present in the ceremony.

The then Vice-Chair of CPN (UML) Bhandari was honoured with this prestigious award by CPN (UML) for her outstanding contribution to democracy, and republic and for playing a leadership role while representing 33 per cent of women in all sectors of the country.

She was incumbent as President for two terms as the first woman president in the country.

Addressing the program, Bhandari showed immense gratitude for being the recipient of the prestigious award.
