World Peace Flame sent to Everest Base Camp

Rupandehi / May 16: The world peace flame to be lit at the inauguration of the ‘Everest Marathon’, which is organized every year on Everest Day (May 29), has been sent from Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, to the Everest base camp.

Himalaya Expedition, the organizer of Everest Marathon, held a programme and handed over the ‘Jyoti of Shanti Deep’ in Lumbini to Baikuntha Manandhar, a record-holder marathon runner in South Asia, through the spiritual adviser of Lumbini Development Trust, Bhikkhu Maitreya.

In the event, Buddhist monks recited the Buddhist scriptures and the ‘peace flame’ was lit and handed over to Himalayan Expedition’s founder and President Bikram Pandey. He said that this journey from Lord Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini to Mount Everest has given a new identity to this region.RSS
