Nepal to begin electricity export to Bangladesh this year: NEA MD Ghising

Kathmandu / Aug 9: Nepal is set to start exporting electricity to Bangladesh later this year.

Speaking at a press conference organized to mark the third anniversary of his second tenure, Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) highlighted the strides Nepal’s energy sector has made in recent years.

Ghising said that over the past eight years, more than Rs 100 billion has been invested in electricity production and distribution, with the NEA’s income also surpassing Rs 100 billion. “Nepal will soon begin exporting electricity to Bangladesh via India,” Ghising announced, adding that a power trade agreement will be finalized once the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh is resolved.
