Writ petition filed against TRC Bill at Supreme Court

Kathmandu / Aug 13: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court challenging the Investigation of Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Third Amendment) Bill, 2081.

The writ was filed after the government tabled a parliamentary committee’s report on the bill in the full house.

According to Advocate Shyam Krishna Maskey, who filed the petition, certain provisions of the bill violate international treaties and established practices.

Maskey also contends that the bill may further victimize those already affected by the conflict.
