PM Oli vows prompt reconstruction

Kathmandu / Oct 16: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has vowed immediate campaign for rehabilitation and reconstruction for those affected by the recent disaster of floods and landslides triggered by the nonstop rainfall on September 27-28.

A scheme of safe and integrated settlement would be forwarded promptly, he reminded while receiving a memorandum submitted before him by an all-party delegation of Khotang district at his residence, Baluwatar today.

Through the memorandum, the delegation made aware PM Oli about loss and damages incurred during the recent disaster and urgency of reconstruction works in Khotang district.

PM Oli also shared that meetings of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, and of the Council of Ministers on Thursday would take decisions on preliminary relief distribution, arrangement of shelters and reconstruction of damaged bridges. He informed that although the major highways en route to the Kathmandu Valley were obstructed with landslides, other roads to the valley helped a lot to restore connectivity immediately.

He underlined the need for managing budget from ones’ own strength despite limited resources.

PM Oli was informed about the major damage in Khotang’s connectivity to Tarai districts after the motorable bridge over the Koshi River at Phoksingtar was swept away during the flood.

Even Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel witnessed the submission of the memorandum by Khotang leaders- Ram Kumar Rai, Saraswati Bajimaya, Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, according to PM’s secretariat. RSS
