Lamichhane reaches high court seeking cancellation of Rs 6.5M bail

Kathmandu / Jan 27: Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of Rastriya Swatantrata Party (RSP), has approached the Pokhara High Court, demanding the cancellation of the Rs 6.5 million bail set by the Kaski District Court to release him.

A bench of District Court Kaski Judge Nitij Rai had ordered Lamichhane to be released on a bail of Rs 6.5 million on January 9.

The High Government Attorney Office, Pokhara, had filed a petition at the Pokhara High Court against the Kaski District Court’s order to release him on bail, demanding to keep Lamichhane in custody and conduct an investigation.

The High Court’s decision on Lamichhane’s plea is expected to influence the trajectory of his legal battles, as he continues to face scrutiny over accusations of organised financial fraud.

Following the Kaski court’s order, Lamichhane was also released on bail by the Kathmandu District Court for Rs6 million and by the Rupandehi District Court for Rs10 million.

In the meantime, the Pokhara attorney’s office has also approached the High Court challenging the district court’s order to free Lamichhane on bail.
