Current account in surplus of Rs 148.17 billion: NRB

Kathmandu / Feb 2: Nepal’s current account remained at a surplus of Rs 148.17 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to the latest report of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

The Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report of Nepal published by the central bank on Sunday shows that the current account remained at a surplus of Rs 162.56 billion during the corresponding period last year.

The report, based on data from the first six months of the current fiscal year, states that the current account in terms of the US dollar registered a surplus of 1.08 billion in the review period against a surplus of 1.22 billion in the same period last year.

The report states that capital transfer during the review period stood at Rs 4.29 billion, compared to Rs 3.11 billion in the same period last year. The central bank also reported an inflow of Rs 6.5 billion in foreign direct investment (equity only) during the review period, up from Rs 4.54 billion in the same period last year.

The Balance of Payments (BOP) remained at a surplus of Rs 249.26 billion in the review period compared to a surplus of Rs. 273.52 billion in the same period of the previous year.
