IOC awaits legal resolution before recognizing NOC elections

Kathmandu / Feb 5: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that it would hold off on recognizing the recent Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) elections until legal challenges surrounding the process were resolved.

In a letter addressed to all NOC members written on Tuesday, the IOC acknowledged the receiving of numerous communications regarding the disputed elections and confirmed they were closely monitoring the situation.

“We understand the position expressed by a significant number of members of the NOC General Assembly,” the letter stated, “however, we have also noted that numerous legal challenges have been raised prior to the NOC elections and in relation to the NOC elections.”

The IOC emphasized its commitment to adhering to the Olympic Charter and the basic universal principles of good governance within the Olympic movement. Consequently, they have opted to postpone taking a definitive stance on both the proposed amendments to the NOC statutes and the elections themselves until the ongoing legal processes are concluded.
